Welcome to the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority (RSWA) Web Site. We are committed to reducing, reusing, recycling and managing solid waste in Virginia's Charlottesville / Albemarle area. We have prepared this site in order to provide you with general information and to help you with your solid waste disposal and recycling needs.

Local Government Support Extended

On August 1 and August 3, 2011, respectively, the City Council and the Board of Supervisors each voted to extend support for solid waste services provided through the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority through at least June 30, 2012. The terms of the contracts approved allow the County and City to extend these services two additional years, in one year increments, by exercising an option at least 60 days prior to the effective date of each additional term. Albemarle County extended support to both the Ivy Materials Utilization Center and the McIntire Recycling Center, while the City of Charlottesville extended support to the McIntire Center. At the same time, the City and County both agreed to finance a Household Hazardous Waste Special Collection event during the Fall 2011 season in addition to a Spring 2011 event that was already budgeted.

Dates Set for Household Hazardous Waste Day Fall Collection and Bulky Waste Days

The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority will be hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Special Collection on behalf of the City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Bulky Waste Special Collections will follow on the Saturdays of November 5, 12, and 19. Click here for more information on these events.

Ivy Material Utilization Center will charge a new fee to non-Albemarle County residents and businesses effective July 1, 2011
