From Charlottesville take I-64 West toward Waynesboro. Take the Ivy Exit to Route 637 South. The Material Utilization Center is approximately 3.3 miles down Route 637 (Dick Woods Road) on the right-hand side.
The next special commercial hazardous waste collection will be announced at a later date. This special collection is only open to qualifying businesses and commercial establishments and not households. Qualifications are defined by federal law to include businesses that (1) generate no more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) hazardous waste in a month, (2) generate no more than 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) acutely hazardous waste in a month, and (3) store not more than 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds) hazardous waste. To participate in this event, businesses must pre-register with MXI Environmental, Inc. at marck@mxiinc.com.

During Amnesty Days, the specific Amnesty Item listed will be accepted from residents of Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville at no charge, as the County and City will finance the disposal fee. This is limited only to household items from the County or City. Contact the Ivy Material Utilization Center at 434-295-3306 with questions.
Holiday Schedule
The Facility is closed on Sundays, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
General Information
The Material Utilization Center at Ivy, located on State Route 637, serves residents of the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The Center includes: transfer station for municipal solid waste and small loads of construction and demolition debris material, vegetative waste mulching operation, household hazardous waste collection, collection centers for white goods, pallets, and tires, and an Encore Shop for collection and sale of reusable items.
Disposal Charge Minimum:
The minimum charge per transaction for all solid waste materials that cross the scales is as follows:
Albemarle County residents and businesses -
$6.00 plus $1.00 service fee
Non-Albemarle County residents and busineses -
$6.00 plus $10.00 service fee
