MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE TRANSFER STATION-IVY
The RSWA Transfer Station at Ivy accepts municipal solid waste from private citizens and collection vehicles
servicing Charlottesville and Albemarle. Customers enter the station by making the first right turn after the scale house. The waste is loaded into the transfer trailers and taken to an offsite landfill.
CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION DEBRIS
Small loads (pickup trucks or equivalent sized trailers) with construction and demolition debris will be accepted at the Material Utilization Center Transfer Station at Ivy. Larger loads will be directed to the BFI Transfer Station.
GRINDABLE VEGETATIVE MATERIAL
Stumps, brush, and other vegetative material will continue to be ground into mulch for sale to the general public. The mulch is a finer grade of material than previously being offered due to the grinding and screening operation now being used.
Wooden pallets are accepted, ground into woodchips, and mixed with mulch.
CLEAN FILL MATERIAL
RSWA still accepts clean fill material including brick, block, mortar, mixed soil, and road building materials.
The following items have a per ton or a per item charge:

RSWA produces a top grade mulch product by recycling wood waste that is brought to the Ivy Center. Stumps, brush, pallets and other usable organic debris, which would otherwise be landfilled, are ground into mulch. Magnets remove nails and other metal fragments to further refine our mulch product. Mulch is available for sale to the general public. If you need large quantities of mulch and have no means to haul it, RSWA can transport the mulch to you at a competitive price. Call the Ivy Material Utilization Center at (434) 295-3306 to schedule your delivery or to check on mulch availability. Delivery charge is $100.00, with a $22, $32 or $42 surcharge based on your delivery area.
THE ENCORE SHOP
The Encore Shop is located adjacent to the RSWA Maintenance Shop. Businesses and private citizens are
encouraged to drop off reusable items such as old doors, windows, sinks, 2 X 4's, non-upholstered furniture, and computers. The items are available for resale to the general public for a nominal fee. Your cooperation in the program helps
conserve valuable landfill space.
STAFFED CONVENIENCE CENTER
The Citizens Convenience Center allows for easy drop-offs of accepted recyclables, household waste or tagged bags. The Convenience Center is staffed for those citizens who bring their own bagged trash and recyclables to the Material Utilization Center.
For a nominal fee, 32 gallon trash bags with trash stickers may be deposited at a waste container located at the Convenience Center (turn right on road prior to the scale house). Each bag (up to 32 gallons in size) must have a RSWA sticker. Stickers can be purchased in sheets of 12 from the Convenience Center or the scale house attendant. Cost is $24.00 for a sheet of twelve stickers. All larger bags, trash cans and loose items must cross the scales as they are not accepted at the Convenience Center.
• Residents may also drop their recyclables in the recycling containers for newspaper, magazine, catalog and cardboard.
• RSWA collects certain limited household hazardous waste (HHW) materials at the Materials Utilization Center from residents of Charlottesville and Albemarle County:
